This publication provides methods for collecting and storing acorns, and advice for seed germination and vegetative propagation techniques for Mexican oaks. The are also chapters on the variation in oak populations in Mexico and Central America, and recommendations for oak conservation. This manual results from the efforts of a group of experts of the Quercus genus in Mexico and Central America, who, together in collaboration with the Global Trees Conservation Program of the Morton Arboretum, the University Botanical Garden of the Benemérita Universidad Autónoma de Puebla, BGCI, the Global Trees Campaign and Fondation Franklinia Foundation have made this publication possible.
Botanic Gardens Conservation International’s work aims to promote and develop a more efficient, cost effective and rational approach to plant conservation in botanic gardens. We will do this by leading and advocating, leading innovative and strategic projects, building plant conservation capacity, and providing funding.
BGCI is an independent organisation registered in the United Kingdom as a charity (Charity Reg. No. 1098834) and a company limited by guarantee (No. 4673175).
