Effective ex situ and in situ conservation of threatened species is the core goal of the Global Conservation Consortia and ensuring that genetic diversity is optimally preserved – both in managed collections and wild populations – is a critical component of this endeavor. This requires integration of basic research and applied conservation and hence robust communication between researchers and practitioners.

To foster dialogue across disciplines and efficient integration of resources, a cross-consortia Conservation Genetics Working Group has been initiated. This working group is intended as an inclusive context in which our network of specialists can explore challenges, gaps, and opportunities and, ultimately, facilitate enhanced conservation outcomes for our focal plant groups. The Conservation Genetics Working Group is one of a series of cross-consortia working groups. While foci vary, the broad objective is to collectively tackle conservation challenges shared across taxonomic groups. The working group meets on a quarterly basis to hear from experts, and facilitate an open, guided discussion. If you would like to join future meetings, you can sign up here. You can view the previous meetings and associated presentation slides on this page.
